Text Box: Purity Promotes Love

Text Box: (Titus 1:15 NIV)  To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

(1 John 3:2-3 NIV)  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

(James 1:27 NIV)  Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

(James 3:17 NIV)  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

(Matthew 5:8 NIV)  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

(Romans 8:5 NIV)  Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Text Box: Jesus, in Mathew 5:8, verbalized the next resultant of following In His Footsteps : Purity.

It is impossible to be purified apart from the blood of Jesus (Titus 2:11-14; 1 John 1:7).  The life you live in this world continually exposes you to impurity.  You fight impure thoughts, judgments, actions and feelings every single hour of every single day.  Your flesh is a very bad influence on you once youíve purified your soul.  Your flesh (bad characteristics = bad company) corrupts your morals (soul) 1 Corinthians 15:33.

Your eyes are especially good at corrupting the rest of yourself.  If you have bad eyes (full of greed, lust and selfish desire) practically everything you do or think will be bad (Matthew 6:22-23)!  How, then, is it possible to keep yourself from the stain of sin?  Only the hope of redemption in Jesus can keep you pure (1 John 3:2-3)!  The moment your thoughts return to dwell on earthly things this hope is corrupted (James 1:27; 3:17).  That is why you must continue to renew your mind and dwell on that hope (Romans 8:5)!

The Scriptures attest to Godís purity and compares it to light (1 John 1:5-10).  Darkness is often compared to impurity throughout the Bible (1 John 2:8-11).  The only way we could ever imagine even being close to God is by being sanctified (rid of darkness) Psalm 15.  Jesus took our sin by becoming a sacrifice in place of us, so that darkness would no longer keep us away from God, but that we may have a living hope in His name (Hebrews 1:3; 2:10-11, 17).

Without Jesus, we are hopeless.  Without His pure Words and Holy Spirit in us we are doomed.  Because the world has so much influence, our minds need to continually be renewed and rewashed (Titus 3:4-7) in order for us to be effective ministers (being salt and light) Matthew 5:13-14.  We need to be brainwashed from the worldly influence.

It is an amazing thing that the sun and the moon were both created in one day and they have been submitting to God since the beginning.  It takes a lifetime, however, for us to be recreated in the image of Christ and be loyal subjects to Him. Let your hope and assurance of eternal life in Him purify you from all unrighteousness!
